**This article relates to AirParrot 1. As of September 2016, support for AirParrot 1 has ended. We encourage you to upgrade to AirParrot 2 for the best compatibility with new devices.**

AirParrot does not enable desktop extension for Windows at this time, but there is a trick for Windows 8 and 8.1 users that will allow this.

The steps for Windows 8 and 8.1 users differ.

Windows 8 users:

  • Press the Windows Key + C to open the Charm bar.
  • Click Devices
  • Click Second Screen / Project
  • Click Extend
  • Press the Windows Key + C to open the Charm bar again.
  • Click Settings
  • Click Control Panel
  • Open the Display Section (This may be hidden under Appearance and Personalization)
  • In the left menu, click Change Display Settings
  • Select Screen Two
  • Select 1920 x 1080 from the drop down Resolution menu
  • Press Apply

Windows 8.1 users:

  • Press the Windows Key + C to open the Charm bar.
  • Click Devices
  • Click Project
  • Click Second Screen
  • Click Extend
  • Press the Windows Key + C to open the Charm bar again.
  • Click Settings
  • Click Control Panel
  • Open the Display Section (This may be hidden under Appearance and Personalization)
  • In the left menu, click Change Display Settings
  • Select Screen Two
  • Select 1920 x 1080 from the drop down Resolution menu
  • Press Apply

Close the Display window and now launch AirParrot. Once AirParrot loads, select Display 2 within AirParrot’s connection menu, and then select the AppleTV to start mirroring. You will now have a desktop extension on your AppleTV.

Please note that this is a workaround and changing system preferences isn't something we recommend or support.
