How to Mass Deploy the Ditto tvOS Receiver Using Kandji MDM

This guide allows an organization’s Ditto and Kandji administrators to zero-touch deploy the Ditto tvOS Receiver software across supervised Apple TVs simultaneously.

Note: Mass Deployment options are only available for Ditto Premium and Elite plans. Ditto Basic plans can be upgraded in the Billing section of your Ditto Account Portal.

The instructions below assume/require:

  1. Your Apple TVs are already enrolled in Kandji and Supervised
  2. Apple VPP is configured and linked to Kandji
  3. You've correctly configured your network for use with Ditto

Want to automate the process even more?

The steps below tell you how to use Kandji to quickly deploy the Ditto tvOS Receiver app to all of your Apple TVs and pair them to your Ditto account. However, you will still need to create all of the Ditto rooms you need in the Ditto Account Portal. You will also need to link all of those Ditto rooms to the Ditto receivers you create here. This can be time-consuming if you are deploying a large number of Ditto rooms and receivers.

Fortunately, you have the option to automatically create a Ditto room for each new Ditto receiver you deploy via Kandji. Additionally, you can automatically link all of those rooms to your receivers. This substantially speeds up your deployment process. If you’re interested in this option, please contact your Ditto account representative before continuing

Step 1 - Preconfigure Kandji in Ditto

  1. Log in to the Ditto Account Portal
  2. Navigate to the "My Organization" area
  3. Select "Deployment"
  4. Select the "Ditto tvOS Receiver" tab
  5. Select "Jamf Pro" from the "Apple TV MDM " options. Don't worry — Kandji uses the same syntax as Jamf Pro.
  6. Copy the configuration code that appears

Step 2 - Deploy Ditto tvOS Receiver in Kandji

Assign Ditto receiver licenses with VPP

In the Apple business/education portal (business.apple.com or school.apple.com):

  1. Click "Apps and Books"
  2. Search for "Ditto Receiver" and select it
  3. In the right column under "Buy Licenses," add your required number of Ditto tvOS Receivers. Note that you are not technically “buying” licenses here. Add as many as you will need.
  4. Assign to the desired company location
  5. Choose the quantity desired and click "Get"

After a few moments, the total under "Manage Licenses" should update to reflect the quantity.

Step 3 - Deploy Ditto tvOS Receiver with Kandji

  1. Log in to your Kandji portal
  2. Click the "Library" tab. Ditto Receiver should now automatically be there under “App Store Apps”
  3. Click Ditto Receiver
  4. Select the “Edit” option
  5. Click the “Blueprint” dropdown
  6. Select “Default Blueprint”

After a moment, the Ditto Receiver application should begin automatically installing on your Apple TV(s). You can now return to the Ditto Account Portal to assign these Ditto receivers to Ditto rooms.

Step 4 - Link Devices to Rooms in Ditto

At this point, your Apple TVs are now configured and paired to your Ditto account. You now need to link the receivers you just created to rooms in your Ditto Account Portal in order to complete your Ditto setup.

If you haven't created rooms in the Ditto Account Portal, follow these steps:

  2. Navigate to the Rooms Section
  3. Create a room for each receiver you added through Kandji
  4. Link each room to a receiver

Ditto is now ready to use with your Apple TVs. Users can mirror their screens using Ditto Connect, and your organization can display signage and on-screen alerts.

Option 2:

If you already created rooms in the Ditto Account Portal, follow these steps to link them to receivers:

  1. Return to the Ditto Account Portal
  2. Navigate to the "My Organization" section
  3. Select "Deployment"
